eRA Commons Accounts

If you do not have an account:

1. Email the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP):
   • Send an email to SponsoredPrograms@unc.edu, copying Jennifer Espinoza, Pre-Award Manager at jespinoza@unc.edu.
   • Include
     • Full name
     • Desired username
     • University email address
     • The roles you need to perform in the eRA Commons system (e.g., PI, SO, etc.).  See sample roles at https://www.era.nih.gov/register-accounts/account-roles.htm

2. OSP Assistance: The OSP will handle the account creation process for you.

3. Account Activation: After the account is created, you may need to log in and complete your Personal Profile within eRA Commons, including answering demographic questions.

If you need to make changes to an existing account:

• If you already have an eRA Commons account but need to update things such as your institutional affiliation or role, please send an email to SponsoredPrograms@unc.edu with the required changes.
